Accro is the studio name of Abderrahim Mahdi, based in Montreal. He was born in Batna, Algeria, and grew up among Amazigh landscapes and cultures. He is self-taught. Time in architecture school taught him how to build, how to keep a schedule, and how to run several projects at once.
He takes back what was going to be thrown away. Vinyl, cotton, paper, wood: the material decides part of the form. Over seven years, with a team, more than 5,000 craft and art objects came out of that work.
Six groups are here. Reclaimed starts from waste, recycled or upcycled into a new object. Bodies is a private collection of illustrative figures, made so a cultural identity stays. Solid Base, with Home Signature Studio, sets a touch of Arabic identity on indoor pieces. Calligraphy comes from a practice started early, in a family of calligraphers. Names shares a piece of identity, spoken or shown. Furniture takes the art as something to be used.
Galleries and collectors can write about a piece, a visit, or a collaboration. Nothing is for sale on this site.
